What is in Novus Striker

Everything below is in the build this site is serving right now, b1bdd147090b5c25. If a move is listed here you can do it today.

The moves

Every action is available on all three input schemes. Nothing is locked to a controller.

The skill stick

Skill moves are gestures, not buttons. Drag the right stick on a controller, hold the right mouse button and drag, or drag the SKILL pad on touch. The touch pad runs the identical recogniser and the identical thresholds a controller does.

  • Cut

    Flick

    Controller, touch and mouse

  • Swerve

    Quarter-circle

    Controller and touch

  • Turn away

    Half-circle

    Controller, touch and mouse

  • Spin

    Full circle

    Controller, touch and mouse

  • Burst

    Double-tap

    Controller and touch

  • Shield

    Hold

    Controller and touch

Three of the six are also recognised by a mouse drag; the full vocabulary needs an analogue stick or the touch pad, which can express a quarter-circle a mouse flick cannot.

On the pitch

Characters with faces

The squad is built at arcade proportions across three distinct species, lit by a three-point rig with ACES tonemapping and bloom.

A charge you can read

Charging a shot draws an arc in the world, on the pitch, rather than hiding the state in a HUD meter.

Team-coloured indicators

The player you control is marked in your team's colour, so a switch mid-move does not lose you.

A dressed pitch

Crowd, pitch dressing and match effects, because an arcade game that looks like a test scene plays like one.

Two players, one screen

Plug in a second controller, click the game, and press A or Start to join Local Co-op. Both players share the pitch and the same set of moves.

What it does not have

Worth knowing before you click Play, because none of it is coming as a surprise later:

  • No online multiplayer. Two players means two controllers on one machine.
  • No account, no save server. Settings persist in your own browser, and clearing site data clears them.
  • Nothing to buy. No currency, no season pass, no cosmetics store. The game is funded by advertising.
  • No native download. There is no desktop or mobile app. The browser build is the whole product, at about 87 MB.

Ready?

The game page explains the download before it fetches anything, and repeats this control legend underneath the pitch. What changed in each build is on the release notes page.
